Become A Mentor

SOHO mentors are women in the Richmond community  who wish to share their encouraging words and patient hands to support strong, confident young women on a journey of self-discovery.  You will act as mentors to your “little sister” once a week while completing art projects and participating in activities here at the Visual Arts Center as well as other events like our opening and closing ceremonies and room-makeovers at the girls home. As a SOHO mentor you will also engage in a leadership and mentorship training through our partnership with the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute. The time commitment for SOHO is intensive because of the depth of the program and the length of your time with your little sister, so committing to being present at SOHO for the entirety of the program

We begin actively recruiting and interviewing in August each year for our program which runs from October through May. However, you are welcome to apply anytime or set up a time to meet with SOHO staff to discuss the program more in-depth. We recommend you speak with Jordan Roeder, Outreach Coordinator in advance of your application. Please feel free to contact her at 804-353-0094 x 252 or at jordanroeder@visarts.org

Watch the in-depth video below to hear from past big and little sisters of the program about their experiences.
